Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday discussed regional and international developments and bilateral relations.

A statement by the Qatari royal court said Sheikh Tamim received a call from Putin during which they "discussed bilateral relations and ways to further enhance them."

The leaders also "dealt with key regional and international developments of joint interest."

The statement did not provide further details, but the call comes two days after another call between US President Donald Trump and Putin, during which details related to a ceasefire proposal between Russia and Ukraine were discussed.

On Feb. 24, 2022, Russia launched a military offensive against Ukraine. Moscow demands Kyiv abandon aspirations to join Western military alliances as a condition for peace, a stance Ukraine views as “interference” in its sovereignty.

The call also comes amid the massacres being committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip, following its resumption of the genocidal war, killing hundreds of Palestinians and shattering a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that took hold in January.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
