Turkish central government debt stock hits $227.4B as of end-2023
Figure soars 67% at annualized pace, according to Treasury and Finance Ministry data

The Turkish central government’s gross debt stock totaled 6.7 trillion liras ($227.4 billion) at the end of 2023, according to official figures released on Monday.
The debt stock surged 67% from the prior year, the Treasury and Finance Ministry data showed.
Some 35.8% of the figure is denominated in liras, while the rest is in foreign currency.
While 3.2 trillion liras ($108.6 billion) of the debt was domestic, some 3.5 trillion liras ($118.9 billion) was external as of the end of last year.
The gross debt stock includes the outstanding debt of public bodies, the Turkish Central Bank, private companies, and households.
As of Dec. 31, the stock of Treasury receivables totaled 27.2 billion Turkish liras ($920 million), the data showed.
The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was around 29.56 at the end of last year.
