US stock market opens Thursday with losses
Gold rises 0.6%, silver adds 0.4%

Major US stock market exchanges opened with losses on Thursday.
The blue-chip Dow Jones was down 134 points, or 0.4%, to 33,763 at 10.20 a.m. in New York. The S&P 500 fell 19 points, or 0.48%, to 4,134.
The Nasdaq decreased 42 points, or 0.35%, to 12,114.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, soared 3% to 16.96. Meanwhile, the 10-year US Treasury yield shed 2% to 3.532%.
The dollar index fell 0.1% to 101.65, while the euro added 0.3% to $1.0985 against the greenback.
Precious metals were in positive territory with gold rising 0.6% to $2,007 per ounce and silver adding 0.4% to $25.39.
Oil prices were down more than 2%. The price of global benchmark Brent crude at $81.28 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude was sitting at $77.45.
