US stocks close Tuesday mixed
Oil prices plummet around 3%
ISTANBUL
Major US stock exchanges closed Tuesday on a mixed note.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased 92 points, or 0.23%, to end the day at just below 40,737.
The S&P 500, on the other hand, rose by 24 points, or 0.45% to 5,495.
The Nasdaq Composite, meanwhile, added 141 points, or 0.84%, to 17,025.
The VIX volatility index, referred to as the "fear index," fell 1.9% to 19.08. The 10-year US Treasury yield lost 1.7% to 3.635%.
The US dollar index increased 0.1% to 101.63, while the euro lost 0.1% against the dollar, trading at $1.1023.
Precious metals were on the rise, gold adding 0.4% to $2,516 per ounce and silver increasing 0.23% to $28.41 per ounce.
Oil prices plummeted around 3%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $69.78 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $66.40 per barrel.
