JERUSALEM

An Israeli man was killed in the northern city of Nahariya on Thursday after rocket fire from Lebanon, local media said.

A military statement said that around 10 rockets were fired from Lebanese territory into northern Israel.

The army said some of the rockets were intercepted, while others hit open areas.

Israeli Channel 12 said at least one rocket struck Nahariya from Lebanon on Thursday.

Israel’s emergency service Magen David Adom said a 30-year-old man was killed by rocket shrapnel in the city.

The new development comes amid US-led efforts to reach a cease-fire deal between Hezbollah and Israel to end their conflict.

Israel has engaged in cross-border warfare with Lebanon, launching an air campaign in late September against what it claims are Hezbollah targets.

Nearly 3,600 people have been killed by Israeli attacks in Lebanon, with over 5,000 injured and more than 1 million displaced since last October, according to Lebanese health authorities.

Tel Aviv expanded the conflict by launching a ground assault into southern Lebanon on Oct. 1.
