Two Israeli settlers were seriously injured on Thursday in rocket fire by Hezbollah from southern Lebanon, police said.

A police statement said several rockets were detected in two areas in Western Galilee in northern Israel, causing damage to several cars.

Two people were seriously injured inside one of the cars, it added.

A military statement said some 50 rockets were fired into northern Israel, causing air-raid sirens to sound in the Galilee region.

The army said some of the rockets were intercepted, while others impacted the ground, without giving any further details.

Israel has mounted a huge air campaign in Lebanon since last month against what it says are Hezbollah targets in an escalation from a year of cross-border warfare between Israel and the group since the start of Israel’s brutal offensive on Gaza.

At least 2,574 people have been killed and more than 12,000 injured in Israeli attacks since October last year, according to Lebanese health authorities.

Israel expanded the conflict on Oct. 1 this year by launching a ground assault into southern Lebanon.
