Three Syrian road security personnel were killed Tuesday when unidentified assailants attacked their patrol in the countryside of Hama province in central Syria, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported.
The patrol was targeted on the Salamiya–Athriya road in eastern rural Hama, it said.
Internal security forces were placed on alert in the area following the attack.
SANA did not provide details about the nature of the attack or the identity of those responsible.
The Salamiya–Sheikh Hilal–Athriya road is an important route in Hama’s countryside, carrying a steady flow of vehicles and trucks, according to Syria’s General Establishment for Road Transport.
The agency announced the start of rehabilitation work in May on sections of the road as part of efforts to improve infrastructure and road safety.
Authorities are seeking to strengthen security and stability nationwide and pursue armed groups amid continuing security challenges, including sporadic attacks on security personnel.
