At least 50 Palestinians on Monday were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a public market area in the Jabalia refugee camp, northern Gaza, local sources told Anadolu.

The airstrike also left 120 people injured, including many in critical condition, in addition to a large-scale destruction of the area, according to the sources.

Meanwhile, the Gaza-based Interior Ministry said Israeli warplanes targeted a residential building belonging to the Abu Eshkayyan family in the central Jabalia camp, leaving dozens killed and injured.

Early on Monday, the Israeli army confirmed that it struck over 500 targets in Gaza during overnight raids, claiming they were Hamas and Islamic Jihad targets.

Denying the Israeli claims, the Gaza-based Interior Ministry said that the Israeli army targeted residential buildings and public facilities, including mosques.

Hamas launched Operation Al-Aqsa Flood against Israel early Saturday, firing a barrage of rockets. It said the surprise attack was in response to the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem and increased settler violence.

In retaliation, the Israeli army launched Operation Swords of Iron against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, killing at least 560 Palestinians and wounding at least 2,900 others.

At least 800 Israelis have been killed and over 2,300 others wounded in the fighting, according to the Israeli Health Ministry.
