Cargo vessel struck by unknown projectile in Strait of Hormuz, 2 casualties reported

A cargo vessel was struck by an unknown projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, catching fire and drifting, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency reported on Wednesday.

UKMTO said in a warning that the vessel’s company security officer reported the incident and that all crew members had been evacuated, with two casualties reported.

Authorities are investigating the incident, while no environmental impact has been reported so far, the agency said.

UKMTO advised vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity to the agency.
