Child injured in Syria's Aleppo blast caused by leftover ammunition

A child was injured Sunday in an explosion in the Al-Suryan neighborhood of Aleppo in northern Syria that was caused by ammunition left behind by the former regime of Bashar al-Assad, Syrian media reported.

Alikhbariah TV said the blast, heard near Al-Rahman Mosque in the neighborhood, resulted from leftover ordnance from the ousted regime.

There were no immediate additional details on the child’s condition or the extent of any damage.

Syrian authorities periodically report deaths and injuries caused by the explosion of war remnants left behind during the war waged by Assad’s forces against opponents during the country’s revolution between 2011 and 2024.

​​​​​​​Assad, who ruled Syria for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia on Dec. 8, 2024, ending the Baath Party's decades-long rule that began in 1963. A transitional administration led by President Ahmad al-Sharaa was formed in January 2025.
