Comorian-flagged oil tanker capsizes off Oman's coast

ISTANBUL

A Comorian-flagged oil tanker capsized in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Oman, Omani authorities said Monday.

The official Oman News Agency cited a statement by the country's Maritime Security Centre as saying that the tanker capsized 25 nautical miles (28.7 miles) southeast of the Ras Madrakah area near the Omani port town of Duqm.

It added that a search and rescue operation was carried out in coordination with local authorities.

No additional information was provided.

Duqm has a prime geographical position at the heart of the Arabian Sea and stands at the crossroads between Asia and Africa.
