Egypt’s new ambassador to Qatar presents credentials
Egypt-Qatar relations improve after more than three years of political rift

DOHA, Qatar
Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on Tuesday received the credentials of Egypt’s new ambassador, Amr el-Sherbini.
The move came amid an improvement in relations between Cairo and Doha after more than three years of political rift.
According to the Qatari state news agency QNA, bin Abdulrahman wished the Egyptian envoy success in his role to promote bilateral relations.
Last month, Qatar appointed Salem bin Mubarak as the Gulf state’s ambassador to Egypt.
Egypt, along with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, severed diplomatic and trade relations with Qatar in 2017, accusing Doha of supporting terrorist groups, an accusation vehemently denied by Qatar.
In January 2021, the four countries signed a reconciliation agreement with Qatar during the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit in Saudi Arabia.
