Egypt’s Sisi appoints new army chief of staff
Lt. Gen. Osama Askar replaces Lt. Gen. Mohamed Farid Hegazi
ISTANBUL
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Wednesday appointed Lt. Gen. Osama Askar as a new chief of staff of the Egyptian army, replacing Lt. Gen. Mohamed Farid Hegazi, according to the presidency.
A statement issued by the presidency did not provide any further details about the move.
Another presidential statement said Hegazi was appointed an adviser to the president on a presidential initiative to develop Egypt’s countryside.
