Head of Dubai Diamond exchange visits Israel: report

JERUSALEM

Chairman of Dubai Diamond Exchange (DDE) Ahmed bin Sulayem recently visited Israel to participate in an international exhibition, local media reported on Wednesday.

According to Israeli daily The Jerusalem Post, Sulayem reached Tel Aviv on Monday to attend the International Diamond Week 2020, the largest diamond marketplace in the Middle East.

“He was welcomed by Israel’s Ramat Gan Diamond Exchange president Yoram Dvash,” the newspaper said.

The DDE is home to over 1,000 domestic and international precious stone companies conducting business at the heart of the region’s diamond trade.

The region’s Arabic and Hebrew-language press has recently reported on a number of secret meetings between Israeli and Arab officials.

Israel and United Arab Emirates (UAE) do not have diplomatic relations.

Egypt and Jordan are the only Arab nations which have ties with Israel but even their relations occasionally wear thin.

The UAE has yet to confirm the reported visit.
