Houthi group reports 6 US-UK raids on Al Hudaydah province in past 24 hours
Raids against Houthi targets come after US announced late Wednesday that 3 sailors were killed in Gulf of Aden
SANAA, Yemen
The Yemeni Houthi group on Thursday reported another US-UK airstrike on Al Hudaydah province in western Yemen, bringing the number of strikes in the past 24 hours to six.
"The American-British aggression targeted with a raid the Jabanah area in Al Hudaydah," said the Houthi-run Al-Masirah Channel in a brief statement, marking the sixth raid on the province in a day.
In separate statements over the past 24 hours, the Houthi group also reported two raids on the Ras Isa area in Al Hudaydah and three others on Al Hudaydah's airport but didn't give further details.
Washington is yet to comment on the Houthis statements.
The raids against Houthi targets come after the US Central Command (CENTCOM) had announced late on Wednesday that three sailors were killed and four others injured when an anti-ship ballistic missile struck M/V True Confidence, a Barbados-flagged, Liberian-owned bulk carrier while transiting the Gulf of Aden.
Houthis confirmed that they targeted a US ship with missiles after it refused to heed their warnings against crossing.
The Houthis have been targeting cargo ships in the Red Sea owned or operated by Israeli companies or transporting goods to and from Israel in solidarity with Gaza, which has been under an Israeli onslaught since Oct. 7.
With tensions escalating due to the US and UK conducting joint airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen, the group declared it considered all American and British ships to be legitimate military targets.
A coalition led by the US - Operation Prosperity Guardian - has conducted intermittent airstrikes since Jan. 12, targeting "Houthi locations" in parts of Yemen in response to the attacks in the Red Sea.
The Red Sea is one of the world's most frequently used sea routes for oil and fuel shipments.
