Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said early Monday that his talks in Oman focused on ensuring safe transit in the Strait of Hormuz for the benefit of regional countries and the wider world.
In a post on the US social media company X’s platform, Araghchi said discussions with Omani officials covered bilateral relations and regional developments, stressing that both countries, as littoral states of the Strait of Hormuz, share responsibility for stability in the vital waterway.
“As only Hormuz littoral states, our focus included ways to ensure safe transit that is to benefit of all dear neighbors and the world,” he said.
“Our neighbors are our priority,” he added.
Araghchi also thanked Omani officials, describing them as “gracious hosts.”
On Sunday, Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi said he held “good” talks with Araghchi on the Strait of Hormuz and stressed that diplomacy and practical solutions were needed to ensure lasting freedom of navigation.
Albusaidi said littoral states recognize their shared responsibility toward the international community and called for urgent humanitarian action to free seafarers held for an extended period.
Araghchi arrived in Muscat on Saturday from Islamabad for talks with Omani officials amid Pakistani mediation efforts to reach an agreement between Iran and the US to end their conflict.
After his trip to Oman, he returned to Pakistan on Sunday for talks with officials there on a possible second round of negotiations with Washington. He later left Islamabad for Moscow for talks with Russian officials.
Iran and the US held talks in Islamabad on April 11-12 but failed to reach an agreement to end their conflict.
The negotiations came after Pakistan brokered a two-week ceasefire on April 8, which was later extended by US President Donald Trump.
Though efforts for another round of talks are underway, some of the sticking points are said to be the Strait of Hormuz, the US blockade of Iranian ports and Iran’s right to enrich uranium.
