BAGHDAD, Iraq

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Wednesday arrived in Iraq’s capital Baghdad on his first official visit after assuming office and was received by Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia Al-Sudani.

According to the Iraqi official news agency INA, Pezeshkian's visit to neighboring Iraq came at an invitation from Al-Sudani.

On Tuesday, the Iranian official news agency IRNA said Pezeshkian will hold bilateral meetings with top Iraqi officials and that the two sides are also expected to sign cooperation agreements and documents on security.

Pezeshkian, 69, was sworn in on July 31, in the presence of top-ranking government officials and dignitaries from at least 70 countries.
