Israel's state television, KAN, reported Saturday that Tel Aviv informed the US before attacking Iran.

KAN said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant were at the Defense Ministry building.

In an evening report based on an unnamed source, KAN said Gallant and Chief of General Staff Herzi Halevi approved the plan to attack Iran, pending a decision from the government.

Israel announced its military conducted "precise strikes" against “military targets” in Iran, as explosions were heard in Tehran.

White House National Security Council spokesman Sean Savett noted in a statement that the US understands “that Israel is conducting targeted strikes against military targets in Iran as an exercise of self-defense and in response to Iran’s ballistic missile attack against Israel on October 1st.”

Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency reported that Israel targeted several military bases west and southwest of Tehran.

“In the Zionist regime’s attack, it appears that several military bases west and southwest of Tehran were targeted,” it said.

Iranian state television also confirmed reports of explosions in Tehran.

The report noted the source of the explosion has yet to be determined, while some explosive sounds were caused by air defense systems.

The semi-official Tasnim News Agency said more details about the incident would be provided later, noting there was no unusual activity at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport or the Mehrabad Airport.

It said some of the videos of explosions on social media were found to be old and unrelated to explosions that occurred overnight Friday.

Additionally, the semi-official Mehr News Agency shared footage from an oil refinery in Tehran, confirming that there was no explosion at the site.
