Israeli forces shot and killed a young Palestinian man late Sunday during an ongoing offensive in the Nur Shams refugee camp in Tulkarm in the northern occupied West Bank, bringing the camp’s death toll for the day to three.

"The young man, Iyas Adli Fakhri al-Akhras, 20, was martyred after being shot by Israeli forces in Nur Shams refugee camp," the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced in a brief statement.

Earlier in the day, two Palestinian women, one of whom was pregnant, were killed by Israeli forces in the camp, according to the ministry.

Six Palestinians, including a child, were also wounded by Israeli gunfire, according to a statement by the Palestine Red Crescent Society.

At dawn on Sunday, the Israeli army expanded its military operation in the northern occupied West Bank, targeting the Nur Shams refugee camp.

Eyewitnesses told Anadolu that Israeli forces forced several families out of their homes in the camp and turned them into military outposts while Israeli bulldozers began demolishing the entrance of the Al-Maslak area of the camp.

Videos circulating on social media platforms Sunday showed heavy Israeli military vehicles moving through the streets of the southern area of Hebron in the occupied West Bank.

The footage captured Israeli armored personnel carriers driving on paved roads and passing through Palestinian markets and residential areas, presenting an unfamiliar scene not witnessed since the Israeli invasion of the West Bank in 2002.

The Israeli escalation follows a broader Israeli military offensive that began on Jan. 21 in Jenin and its refugee camp as well as surrounding towns, killing at least 25 people, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

The army expanded its assault into Tulkarem on Jan. 27, killing eight more people. On Feb. 2, another assault was launched in the town of Tammun and the Far'a refugee camp in the city of Tubas.

The escalation follows a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal in Gaza on Jan. 19 after more than 15 months of Israeli bombardment which has killed more than 48,000 Palestinians and devastated the enclave.

Since the war began on Oct. 7, 2023, Israeli forces and settlers have killed at least 910 Palestinians across the occupied West Bank, according to the Health Ministry.
