The Israeli army on Friday said two rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip towards the southern city of Sderot.

The statement noted that a rocket was intercepted by the army's air defenses, while the other landed in an open area, causing no damage or casualties.

Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth said sirens wailed in Sderot and other surrounding areas for the first time in three weeks over the rockets firing.

Meanwhile, the Quds Brigades, the armed wing of Palestinian group Islamic Jihad, said in a statement that it had fired rockets towards Israeli settlements adjacent to Gaza.

On Aug. 3, the Israeli army said three rockets were fired from Gaza towards southern Israel, claiming that one was intercepted and the two other struck an open area.

Israel has continued its offensive on Gaza following a Hamas attack on Oct. 7, 2023, despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire.

The onslaught has resulted in over 40,200 Palestinian deaths, mostly women and children, and over 93,000 injuries, according to local health authorities.

The ongoing blockade of Gaza has led to severe shortages of food, clean water, and medicine, leaving much of the region in ruins.

Israel faces accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice, which has ordered a halt to military operations in the southern city of Rafah, where over one million Palestinians had sought refuge before the area was invaded on May 6.
