Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Friday condemned attempts to drive chaos and insecurity in Syria, reaffirming the kingdom's support for Syria and its stability.

"We condemn all attempts, groups and foreign interventions that target the security, sovereignty and peace of Syria," Safadi wrote in a statement on X. "We support the Syrian government in all of its efforts to maintain law and civil peace, as well as the stability of Syria and the safety of its citizens.”

"Everything must be done to help Syria rebuild the new Syrian state on the basis of unity, security, stability, and sovereignty, and to protect the rights of all the sons of the benevolent Syrian people," he added.

Military and security forces from various parts of Syria converged Thursday to assist in countering the largest assault by Assad loyalists in the coastal town of Jableh and surrounding areas, resulting in the deaths of 11 members of the Syrian army.

Gayyas Delle, commander of a part of the deposed regime forces, and who was involved in ambushing security forces, announced the formation of a military council to overthrow the government.

Bashar Assad, Syria’s leader for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia on Dec. 8, ending the Baath Party’s regime, which had been in power since 1963.

Ahmed al-Sharaa, who led anti-regime forces to oust Assad, was declared president for a transitional period on Jan. 29.
