Thousands killed in 2 deadly earthquakes in Türkiye, Syria
AMMAN, Jordan
Jordan dispatched 14 aid trucks to neighboring Syria on Thursday following the Feb. 6 earthquakes that killed thousands there and in Türkiye.
The trucks prepared by the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization are loaded with medicines, foodstuffs, blankets and drinking water, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The humanitarian aid was delivered to the quake-hit areas in Syria via the Jaber-Nassib border crossing, it added.
According to the statement, seven aid trucks were delivered to the High Relief Commission in Syria, while the remaining trucks were given to UN agencies operating in Syria.
Ministry spokesman Sinan Majali said Jordan will continue its support and assistance to the quake victims in both Syria and Türkiye.
Jordan has dispatched 13 relief aid planes, 75 aid trucks and 10 ambulances, in addition to an air bridge to transport 10,000 tents for the quake victims.
More than 43,500 people have been killed in the deadly earthquakes in Türkiye, according to the country’s disaster management agency AFAD.
The magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 earthquakes, centered in the Kahramanmaras province, affected more than 13 million people across 11 provinces, including Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye, Elazig and Sanliurfa.
In Syria, at least 5,840 people have been killed in the deadly earthquakes.
