OIC supports political solution to Syrian crisis
Syrian war led to deaths 1 million people, 11 million forced to leave homes, Secretary-General says

BRUSSELS (AA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Thursday urged the international community to urgently help Syrian refugees and back a political solution to the crisis.
Secretary-General Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen, speaking at a conference regarding Syria and the region held in Brussels, said the attempts to find a political solution to the crisis should be supported.
He said that civil war which has been ongoing since 2011 led to the deaths of about a million people and approximately 13 million found themselves in a needy position.
"Some 11 million people were forced to leave their places," he said, calling on the global community to create an "urgent fund" to help refugees.
Al-Othaimeen pointed out that the OIC supported a political solution that would contribute to establishing a Syrian state based on pluralism, democracy
