RAMALLAH, Palestine

A journalist working for the Palestinian Authority's television channel was killed Thursday along with 10 members of his family in an Israeli airstrike that targeted his house in Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip.

"Our correspondent and colleague Muhammad Abu Hatab and members of his family were martyred in an Israeli airstrike that targeted his home in Khan Yunis," said broadcaster Palestine TV in a statement.

According to the official Palestinian news agency WAFA, Abu Hatab was covering developments from Nasser Medical Hospital in Khan Yunis and had concluded his coverage one hour before the attack on his home.

At least 27 journalists have been killed in Israel’s war on Gaza since Oct. 7, according to the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate.

The syndicate announced Wednesday that one of its members, Majd Fazl Arands, who worked for the Al-Jamahir news website, was killed during an attack near his home in the Nusirat refugee camp.

This week, the Israeli army expanded its air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip, which has been under relentless airstrikes since the Palestinian group Hamas launched a cross-border attack against Israel on Oct. 7.

Nearly 10,600 people have been killed in the conflict, including 9,061 Palestinians and more than 1,538 Israelis.

Besides the large number of casualties and displacement, basic supplies are running low for Gaza’s 2.3 million residents due to the Israeli siege.
