Israeli forces raid Qalandia refugee camp amid rising tensions in West Bank
RAMALLAH, Palestine
One Palestinian was killed and 22 others were injured in an Israeli military raid in the Qalandia refugee camp in the occupied West Bank, according to the Health Ministry on Monday.
Israeli forces raided the Qalandia camp and the Kafr Aqab neighborhood north of East Jerusalem early morning, witnesses said.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said its medics dealt with 22 injuries in the camp, including 15 by live fire.
Tensions have been running high across the West Bank amid an Israeli military offensive on the Gaza Strip following a cross-border attack by Hamas on Oct. 7.
The Israeli army has since detained more than 3,540 Palestinians in the occupied territory, according to Palestinian figures.
Israel resumed its military offensive on the Gaza Strip on Friday after the end of a week-long humanitarian pause with Hamas.
At least 15,899 Palestinians have been killed and more than 42,000 others injured in relentless air and ground attacks on the enclave since Oct. 7, according to health authorities in Gaza.
The Israeli death toll in the Hamas attack stood at 1,200, according to official figures.
