Palestinian killed in Israeli military raid in West Bank
4 other Palestinians injured by Israeli shelling of Tulkarem refugee camp, according to local official
RAMALLAH, Palestine
One Palestinian was killed and several people were injured in an Israeli military raid in the West Bank city of Tulkarem on Thursday, the Health Ministry said.
A ministry statement said one person lost his life by Israeli army fire in the Tulkarem refugee camp and his body was transferred to a hospital.
Four other people, including a woman, were injured in Israeli shelling in the camp, according to Faisal Salameh, the head of a local committee in the camp.
Witnesses said Israeli forces raided the city early Thursday, triggering clashes with angry residents.
The Israeli military has conducted regular raids in the West Bank in recent years, which have escalated with the start of the onslaught against the Gaza Strip on Oct. 7, 2023. Palestinians have also been violently attacked by illegal Israeli settlers.
At least 780 Palestinians have since been killed and over 6,300 injured by Israeli army fire in the occupied territory, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
The escalation follows a landmark opinion in July by the International Court of Justice that declared Israel's decades-long occupation of Palestinian land “illegal” and demanded the evacuation of all existing settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
