ERBIL, Iraq

A suicide drone attempting to target the US-led coalition base near Erbil International Airport in Iraq was shot down late Wednesday, according to the Directorate General of Counter Terrorism of the Kurdish regional government.

According to the statement, the drone was downed at 8.58 p.m. local time (1758GMT).

A group called the Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed responsibility for the attack on its Telegram channel. The network of shadow Iraqi militia groups, which includes pro-Iran Shiite militias, announces frequent attacks on bases of US-led coalition forces in response to Washington’s support for Israel in its war on Gaza.

As part of this, Ayn al-Assad Military Base in Anbar, Harir Air Base in Erbil, Camp Victory Military Base in Baghdad and the US base near Erbil International Airport have been repeatedly targeted with drones.
