At least 10 civilians were killed and 16 others injured on Sunday in airstrikes by the Syrian regime forces on opposition-held areas in Idlib, civl-defense officials said.

Mustafa Hajj Youssef, director of the White Helmets civil-defense agency, said regime airplanes targeted Idlib center, Binnish and Kafer Secne neighborhoods.

He also confirmed the casualties.

The assault came despite a 30-day UN cease-fire resolution adopted late last month.

Syria has been locked in a devastating conflict since early 2011 when the regime cracked down on demonstrators with unexpected ferocity.

According to UN officials, hundreds of thousands of people have been killed in the conflict to date.
