The Turkish Red Crescent distributed meat to 6,000 families in five Yemeni provinces for the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice.

The head of the aid group’s branch in Yemen, Ibrahim Obaid, told Anadolu that distribution took place in Aden, Abyan, Lahij, Dali and Taiz.

Obaid emphasized the aid was specifically targeted at extremely poor and needy families.

The Red Crescent announced it wanted to sacrifice 128,000 shares of meat and deliver it to 3.8 million needy people in 21 countries this year, including Türkiye.

The Muslim holiday commemorates the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim, or Abraham, to sacrifice his son at God's command, before the last-minute divine substitute of a ram.

The sacrificed meat is distributed to the needy during the holiday.
