UNIFIL urges Israel to declare cease-fire to facilitate rescue operation near Blue Line
Lebanese Armed Forces request UNIFIL's assistance for 7 people stranded during exchange of fire
ISTANBUL
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), at the request of the Lebanese Armed Forces, has called on the Israeli army to declare a cease-fire in order to facilitate a rescue operation near the Blue Line.
“This evening, the Lebanese Armed Forces requested UNIFIL's assistance for seven individuals stranded near the Blue Line, close to Sheikh Abad's tomb, during a significant exchange of fire across the Blue Line,” UNIFIL said on X.
“The IDF suspended fire, allowing the LAF to extract the individuals from the area,” said UNIFIL, referring to the Israeli army.
It pointed out that “tragically, one person lost his life during this incident and the others were successfully rescued.”
