The U.S. has added two Iranian universities to its sanctions on the Islamic Republic, according to the country's science minister.
"Due to their nuclear researches, Shahid Beheshti University and Sharif University of Technology were included in the sanctions list," the semi-official ISNA News Agency quoted Mansour Gholami as saying on Monday.
Gholami said researches by Iranian universities in the field of nuclear physics and their articles were misinterpreted.
He, however, said his efforts would continue to change this "false perception".
In August 2018, the U.S. re-imposed the first round of economic sanctions on Iran, which mainly target the country’s banking sector.
In November same year, Washington imposed a second round of sanctions, targeting Iran’s energy sector.
