TUNIS
At least seven militants and one policeman were killed on Tuesday after Tunisian security forces stormed a house in capital Tunis in which militants had been holed up for several hours .
"One policeman was killed and two others injured in clashes with terrorists," Interior Ministry spokesman Mohamed Ali al-Arwa told Tunisia's official news agency.
At least seven "terrorists" were also killed in the operation, which took place in Tunis' northern Raoued district, a well-placed source told Anadolu Agency.
According to the source, security agencies believe that one of the militants holed up inside the house is Kamel Gadhgadhi, the main suspect in last year's assassinations of prominent opposition figures Mohamed Brahmi and Chokri Belaid.
Police snipers took up positions on the roofs of adjacent building as exchanges of fire between militants and security forces erupted intermittently.
The confrontation first broke out on Monday night after police attempted to raid the house with the intention of arresting wanted militants.
