Afghan security forces killed at least 44 Taliban militants and injured 39 others in various military operations in five provinces of the country, the Afghan government announced Saturday.
According to the Afghan interior ministry statement, 31 militants were killed and 11 others were injured in operations conducted in Baghlan, Logar, Paktia and Helmand provinces.
In a separate operation, 13 Taliban militants were killed and 28 others injured in Ghazni province, the Afghan defense ministry added.
Meanwhile, Taliban also said Saturday they killed 26 Afghan security officers and damaged seven Afghan military vehicles.
The Taliban have intensified their war against the US-led coalition and Afghan security forces as the deadline for withdrawal of international troops by year end nears.
