An al-Qaeda-linked group has claimed responsibility for an attack targeting a Shiite Houthi leader in Yemeni capital Sanaa on Friday.
The Ansar al-Sharia group wrote on Twitter that it was responsible for a bomb explosion targeting the vehicle of Houthi leader Ibrahim al-Mahtouri in Sanaa.
Al-Mahtouri was seriously injured in the attack.
The group had earlier claimed responsibility for a massive suicide bombing that killed 47 Houthi demonstrators in Sanaa on Thursday.
Shiite Houthi militants have seized control of the Yemeni capital late last month, following three weeks of massive protests and clashes with army forces.
Yemen has been dogged by political turmoil since pro-democracy protests forced autocratic president Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down in 2012 after 33 years in power.
