CAIRO
Secretary General of the Arab League, Nabil al-Araby met with the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo.
According to sources, al-Araby and Abbas discussed the latest developments in Palestine, efforts to end domestic frictions, facilitating a consensus among Palestinian groups and Israeli projects for new Jewish settlements in the West Bank.
Al-Araby also met with the leader of Hamas, Khaled Mashal in a Cairo hotel on Thursday.
Speaking to the press after their meeting, Mashal said that they took a decision on Thursday so that the Palestinian consensus continued and to activate all former decisions taken for consensus.
Al-Araby, in his part, said that he was highly hopeful after the meetings on Thursday.
"The Arab League supports the unity of Palestinians. The unity of Palestinians would strengthen Palestine both domestically and in the international arena," al-Araby added.
