Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif arrived in Baghdad on Tuesday for talks with Iraqi officials.
Zarif is expected to hold talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari.
Talks will focus on the situation in Iraq and Syria, an Iraqi diplomatic source told Anadolu Agency.
The top Iranian diplomat is scheduled to hold a press conference with his Iraqi counterpart later in the day.
It is not immediately clear how long the Iranian minister will be in Baghdad.
Zarif flew into Baghdad from Beirut where he had held talks with Lebanese officials and Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah.
