SALADIN, Iraq
Eleven security personnel were killed and 22 others were injured Saturday in suicide car bomb attacks in Saladin province, security sources said.
Police Captain Ghazwan al-Jabouri told Anadolu Agency that Daesh militants drove four explosive-laden cars directly into Iraqi security forces and al-Hashd al-Shaabi Shia militiamen in al-Hajjaj village south of Baiji city.
Also, a security officer at Samarrah Hospital, located 100 kilometers south of Baiji, confirmed that the hospital received 11 bodies as a result of the attacks.
Iraqi forces, backed by Iraqi Shia militia al-Hashd al-Shaabi and Iraqi Kurdish peshmerga forces, have been fighting Daesh across Iraq over the past year.
Although Daesh has recently lost several areas of Diyala, Nineveh and Saladin provinces, it remains in control of most of Anbar province.
