PRISTINA, Kosova
The two largest parties in Kosovo - Prime Minister Hashim Thaci‘s Democratic Party and opposition leader Isa Mustafa‘s Democratic League of Kosovo - have agreed to form a government six months after early elections.
The two parties reached the deal late on Wednesday during a meeting between President Atifete Jahjaga and the U.S. ambassador to Pristina, Tracy Jacobson, according to a statement issued by the presidential office.
It was also agreed that Mustafa would be the new prime minister of Kosovo, the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) said in a statement after the meeting.
Appointments to ministries are to be announced in the coming days.
Western powers recently called for a government to be formed as soon as possible.
