Barasi in a press conference in Benghazi, said "l resigned because the government could not maintain security in Libya's second city, Benghazi".
Indicating that the government could not maintain security in Libya especially in Benghazi, Barasi highlighted the rise of assassinations across the country.
The main reason of the fact was the will of government which was to centralize the authority, Barasi said.
Also, recently Libyan minister of social affairs Kamilah Khamis Abdallah al-Muzayni resigned after escalating violence in the country.
The minister of social affairs was the fifth official who resigned after minister of defense, martyr and veterans, informatics and minister of interior, since October 2012.
In Libya, there has been tension between the government and armed militants in recent times. The number of attacks targeting officials from the army, judiciary and political activists has risen in recent days since the beginning of holy month of Ramadan, and 17 people from various professions, like judges, police officers, soldiers, and political activists were killed.
The biggest party of Libya, National Forces Alliance had warned the authorities that they were going to withdraw from the government if the assassinations were not shed light on.
