Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the lifting of the arms embargo for the Syrian opposition by EU was illegitimate.
Lavrov responded to the question of the Russian media after the trilateral summit with US Secretary of State John Kerry and Foreign Minister of France Laurent Fabius.
"States are not allowed to sell weapons to the external groups, according to the international rules," said Lavrov about the decision of lifting the arms embargo by EU.
Lavrov referred to the "International Weapon Trade Agreement of UN", which was penned in April, and added, "Delivery of weapons can be made only to the states. In this context, I don't know, on which rules delivering the weapons to the Syrian opposition would be based."
Lavrov stressed that they made a verbal agreement that there will be no weapon delivery to Syrian opposition till August 1.
Lavrov reminded that this issue, delivering the weapons, will be negotiated after August, and said, "I am repeating, the decision of lifting the embargo is illegitimate."
