ANTANANARIVO

Madagascar's presidency on Sunday unveiled a new cabinet lineup that consists of 30 ministers.

The presidency announced the new cabinet formation soon after President Hery Rajaonarimampianina met with appointed Prime Minister Jean Ravelonarivo.

Around 22 ministers from the previous government are maintaining their posts in the new cabinet, which includes only eight new ministers.

Madagascar's President named Ravelonarivo, an air force commander, as prime minister in mid-Jan., two days after former Prime Minister, Roger Kolo, submitted his resignation.

Ravelonarivo, a real estate mogul, was appointed air force commander in Dec. of 2014.

His wife, Josiane Ravelonarivo, is reported to be a close associate of Madagascar's First Lady, Voahangy Rajaonarimampianina.

When Kolo submitted his government's resignation, he prompted the first change of government in Rajaonarimampianina's era.

The Malagasy leader was elected to lead the country in Dec. of 2013 after five years of political unrest.

According to a source close to Kolo, the former Prime Minister's resignation was fuelled by disagreements between him and the presidency.
