WASHINGTON
United States President Barack Obama met with Jordan's King Abdullah II on Tuesday at the White House after the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant released a video showing the captive Jordanian pilot being burnt alive.
A video and photographs showing Moaz al-Kasasba's execution by ISIL went viral on the Internet Tuesday.
Both leaders vowed to continue the fight against the terrorist group, despite ISIL's threatening those who are take part in the US-led coalition.
Part of the 22-minute video claims that the Jordanian King was responsible for the pilot’s fate.
Jordanian pilot First Lieutenant Muath al-Kasaesbeh was taken into captivity after his fighter jet was downed near the northern Syrian city of Raqqa on Dec. 24, 2014 while on a mission as a part of a military campaign against ISIL.
“The president offered his deepest condolences for the death of First Lieutenant Moaz al-Kasasbeh,” National Security Council spokesperson Alistair Baskey said. “The president and King Abdullah reaffirmed that the vile murder of this brave Jordanian will only serve to steel the international community’s resolve to destroy ISIL.”
Jordanian authorities had tried to secure the pilot's release, but ISIL made his freedom conditional on the release of would-be suicide bomber Sajida al-Rishawi from a Jordanian jail.
