BELGRADE
At a NATO meeting of ambassadors in Belgrade, the Serbian Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkic stated that Serbia does not want to become a NATO member state, but will remain a steady partner in the project Partnership for Peace (PfP), AA reports.
He told ambassadors that "there is a room for improvement on cooperation in the PfP mechanism,” a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared.
Mrkic emphasised the need for the continuous presence of international forces (KFOR) in Kosovo stressing that "their presence will grant security for Serbs and other minorities in this country, and secure implementation of the agreement reached in Brussels."
Kosovo is a former Serbian province that gained independence in 2008. Serbia is not ready to recognise Kosovo's sovereignty, but the governments of both countries are in negotiation the way toward normalisation of the relations, under the supervision of the EU.
