NEW YORK
The UN Security Council on Wednesday condemned a "heinous" bomb attack that killed 32 people in Turkey’s southern province of Sanliurfa.
In a written statement, the 15-member body said "any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed".
The council "underlined the need to bring perpetrators of these reprehensible acts of terrorism to justice", read the statement.
Monday’s attack in the town of Suruc, which also left more than 100 people wounded, targeted a group of activists holding a news conference about an upcoming visit to help rebuild Kobani, the Syrian town devastated by fighting between Daesh and Kurdish militias.
Since the blast, several Turkish officials, including Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, have named Daesh as being likely to have carried out the attack. No group has yet claimed responsibility.
On Wednesday, Turkish police officially identified the suspected suicide bomber as 20-year-old Seyh Abdurrahman Alagoz from an identity card found at the site of the bombing.
