Ukraine wants to sign an European Union (EU) partnership agreement before the presidential elections, says the head of Ukraine's Europe Integration committee, according to Russian news site, Novii Region.
Gregory Nemirya, the chairman of the committee, said the interim president, Alexander Turchynov, could sign the EU agreement, regarding an ease on visa procedures, as the current parliament holds the responsibility.
The Ukrainian parliament decided to hold the presidential election on May 25.
Nemirya said the EU would hold talks with Russia on 12-13 March in an attempt to calm Moscow's possible reactions down.
He said that the protests that rocked the country broke out after the Russia-backed former president rejected a trade deal with the EU.
Protests in Ukraine erupted in November 2013 after the ousted president Viktor Yanukovych called off a trade pact with EU.
