United Nations Security Council approved creation of a peacekeeping force to support peace and stability in Mali.
The security council unanimously approved the creation of a peacekeeping force made up of 11,200 military personnel and 1,440 police officers, to be known as MINUSMA, in Mali starting on July 1.
After a military coup in March 2012 in northern Mali, the protests got escalated, and France launched a military intervention in the country on January 2013.
