MOSCOW

A woman and a child were killed, while three others sustained injuries in Ukraine's shelling of Russia's Bryansk region on Tuesday, the regional governor said.

This happened in the Klimovo settlement located close to Ukraine's border, Aleksandr Bogomaz said.

"The blow was struck in the very center of the settlement. Unfortunately, there are dead people - a woman and a child. According to preliminary information, three civilians were injured. They are now receiving medical care," Bogomaz said.

A residential building caught fire and several private cars were destroyed as a result of shelling, the governor said, adding that rescue operations continued in the area and that the casualty toll may rise.
