Dutch premier announces over $220M support package for Ukraine

GENEVA

Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof on Monday announced a new support package worth €200 million (over $220 million) for Ukraine, where Russia continues its "special military operation" since February 2022.

Schoof, during his first visit to Ukraine, said on X: "We must do everything possible to help Ukraine keep going. On the front lines, but also in people’s daily lives."

"That’s why the Netherlands is providing a substantial new support package worth over €200 million," he added.

He said the package is focused mainly on protecting and repairing the energy infrastructure and includes additional funding for humanitarian assistance.

Arguing that people in Ukraine have the right to live in freedom and security, and stopping Russia’s attacks on Ukraine is in the security interests of both the Netherlands and Europe, he said: "My first visit to the country as prime minister of the Netherlands has confirmed my conviction that we must continue to support Ukraine."

He assured that Ukraine "can count on the Netherlands' continuing support and engagement."
