Kremlin says prospects of grain deal extension 'not so good'
Peskov says Russian part of deal 'not working' and 'no deal can stand on one leg'
MOSCOW
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday that the prospects of the extension of the Black Sea Grain Initiative "are not so good."
The Russian part of the deal is not working and "no deal can stand on one leg," Peskov told reporters at a press briefing in Moscow.
"We know that the representatives of the UN are making some efforts, but they are not succeeding, and still the second half of the deal does not work and these conditions are not met.
"No deal can stand on one leg, it must stand on two legs. In this regard, of course, judging by the state of today, the prospects are not so good," he said.
Peskov refused to comment on information about "secret talks" between China, Iran, and Russia on deliveries of components for ballistic missiles, saying he did not read such reports.
The official called "terrible" a video footage showing the beheading of a man with Ukrainian stripes on his uniform, adding that its authenticity has to be checked.
If the credibility is proved, there should be an investigation, he noted.
Turning to the innovations in the Russian legislation making equal digital and paper notifications about the necessity to report to the military service, Peskov said the bill was passed quickly because the situation demanded it.
"When the special military operation began, you and I saw that in some places we have a lot of mess in the military enlistment offices. That's exactly what this bill is designed to fix, to make the process modern, efficient, and convenient for citizens," he said.
About Russian President Vladimir Putin's awareness of the bill, the spokesman said: "He was briefed."
The spokesman said his attitude to the US decision to not deliver visas for Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and members of his delegation, who were going to the UN headquarters in New York, is "negative."
Peskov also said he needs to check the information about the US refusal to issue travel documents to the Russian delegation, but if it is true, then, the US has to fulfill the obligations it undertook as the UN headquarters host country.
The official doubted the credibility of leaked US and NATO documents on Ukraine, saying Moscow had information that many instructors and fighters of NATO countries, including the UK, take part in combat operations "long before the appearance of these documents."
About the Russian parliamentary investigation on US military biological activities in Ukraine, Peskov said Moscow would do everything to draw attention to it because it is illegal.
The results of the investigation will "certainly be reported to the head of state," he said.
