Russia claims capture of key village in Ukraine's Donetsk region
Moscow reports continued gains in eastern Ukraine amid ongoing conflict
ISTANBUL
Russia announced on Thursday that its forces have taken control of another settlement in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, where Moscow says it is advancing on multiple fronts.
According to a statement by Russia’s Defense Ministry, Russian forces captured the village of Zavitne, located approximately 22 kilometers (13.6 miles) southeast of Pokrovsk, a strategically important logistics hub in the region.
Ukrainian officials have yet to respond to Russia's claim, and independent confirmation of the development remains difficult due to the ongoing conflict.
Russia has frequently reported gains in recent months as it continues its offensive in Donetsk, with the area around Pokrovsk seeing heightened activity. However, the broader situation in the region remains fluid, with intense fighting on multiple fronts.
